Hitchoo.com is an auction-based dating website, and is the largest local dating site in Singapore. We resolve users’ frustration with traditional, messaging-based, dating sites by making it hassle-free for singles to arrange real-life dates. The company is now in its high growth phase: many interesting projects are planned, including expansion beyond dating. Hitchoo is offering an opportunity to work in Singapore this summer for 2-3 months.

Discovering people who you can have a meaningful connection with is a classic problem that is far from being solved. Examples includes finding new collaborators for projects, hiring talent, and forming groups of niche interests. Despite the plethora of social platforms, most people still mainly uses email, headhunters, and offline events for these purposes, which are all highly inefficient.

Currently in private alpha, Discoverio is focused on combining 3 unique attributes towards solving this problem.
  1. Specialized interactions and incentives (vs casual interactions and trivial incentives on current social networks)
  2. Discovery as the main mode of people finding (vs search, which does not work when user does not know exactly who he is looking for)
  3. Personalized relevance for users (vs. chronological consumption of messages, which leads to important messages being drowned out in noise)

We are focused on building the best people discovery platform for creating meaningful connections between individuals who can add value to each other.

  1. Want to understand discovery. Check out Discovery is the New Cocaine, a very well received methodology that documents our thoughts on discovery.
  2. Love rapid iteration and experimentation. We have done 4 major iterations over the span of 2 months. Not there yet, but we are feeling it.

Who we are looking for:
  • Excellent understanding of the social web (technical and product wise), in order to help develop a external data strategy
  • Kick ass Rails/Ajax skills and willingness to play critical roles like user feedback, usability testing, etc
  • Passion for using both interaction and social data to develop a innovative, highly unique discovery engine

We are a young and small team, but we have a very clear sense of direction about where we are going, and vision on where the discovery space is headed.

The CEO and founder of YourVersion, Dan Olsen, is a Stanford Business School alum (’98) with a technical background and over 16 years of high-tech experience. Dan led product management for Quicken and Friendster and has advised many early-stage web startups. Dan regularly presents on Web 2.0 topics and has lectured at Professor Weigend’s courses and Professor BJ Fogg’s Facebook course (CS 377). Most recently, Dan presented at the O'Reilly Web 2.0 Expo (slides available here )
